Chapter 2. Oceanographic Conditions INTRODUCTION The City of San Diego collects a comprehensive suite of oceanographic data from offshore ocean waters surrounding both the Point Loma and South Bay Ocean Outfalls (PLOO and SBOO, respectively) to characterize conditions in the region and to identify possible impacts of wastewater discharge. The Ross Sea is one of the most productive regions of the Southern Ocean, partly owing to the large and persistent polynyas that form there.
